The Scrap Booking Club

My husband’s youngest brother has never had children of his own. He was married for a few years, but the relationship ended in a long drawn out divorce proceeding. He is very good with children and he goes out of his way to do special things for his nieces and nephews to help him buy his groomsmen gifts. He is the god father to our daughter. From the time that she was born they have had a special bond. My daughter enjoys his company because he makes her feel like a princess. He began giving her porcelain dolls when she was less than a year old. Her collection is incredible and the majority of them have come from him.

On the day that our daughter was baptized he brought two porcelain dolls. One was an infant girl that was the same size and weight as our daughter. The other doll was dressed as a school girl. My brother-in-law was still married at this time and his wife took full credit for picking out the porcelain dolls. As the years went by he gave her the porcelain dolls for her birthday as well as shopping for unique groomsmen gifts, Christmas and any other time during the year that he felt like it. If he went away on a business trip he would return with a doll for her. She has a full collection of the porcelain dolls from other countries and she has dolls from musicals and other Hollywood productions.

My daughter has now completed college and is planning her wedding. Her fiancé has developed a very close relationship with my brother-in-law. They both work for the same company and my brother-in-law has been mentoring him in the world of finance. I thought it was a wonderful gesture when they asked him to be the best man in their wedding. My brother-in-law is thrilled and he calls me often to see if there is anything in the wedding planning that he can help with. He also asked if he could come to the bridal shower. He is the only man that I have ever heard of that requested to be any where near a bridal shower. I told him the date time and location of the shower.

On the day of the shower we were just going to begin opening presents of bridesmaid gifts when he arrived. He walked in carrying two boxes. From the shape of the boxes I knew that they contained porcelain dolls. When my daughter opened them she began to cry. He had contracted with a doll maker to paint my daughter and her fiancé‘s likeness onto the faces of a bride and a groom doll. He had taken a copy of their engagement photo into the doll maker. All the women at the shower agreed that they had never seen such a wonderful gift.
